Janet Granja

Third Grade Teacher
(208) 883-3195 ext 105 (Direct Dial)

My name is Janet Granja, and I am very excited to be joining the staff and community of Moscow Charter School as the new third grade teacher. I have a diverse educational background, having worked within a variety of innovative educational programs that focused on best teaching practices and the development of interdisciplinary curriculum units. I received my original teacher training in bilingual, multicultural education at UC Santa Cruz, California, and have worked in multi-age and bilingual classrooms. Having worked at charter schools in both Arizona and here in Moscow, I am looking forward to working once again in the family-like atmosphere that small community charter schools have to offer. My instructional focus is building literacy and developing basic skills through the development of interdisciplinary curriculum units and project-based thematic instruction. My goal is to provide in-depth exploration of subject matter within an artistic and language-rich environment. I work with students, parents and specialists to foster this in the classroom.
My hobbies are dancing, weaving, spinning and felting—all of which I have incorporated into my classroom from time to time. I have formed Renaissance Dance Troupes with children (which performed at the Moscow Renaissance Faire for 2 years in a row), and am looking forward to starting an After-School Dance Club with the children of Moscow Charter School. I live with my husband, two Border Collies and four cats on a ranch in Viola, Idaho, along with various sheep, goats, a llama and a “barn bunny” who considers herself part of the “fiber” flock.
I am looking forward to working with the children and parents of this year’s third grade class, and am eager to begin the year with some creative classroom projects. I hope to see you during these last days of summer, as I prepare my classroom for the exciting year to come!
